The main objective of the algorithm is to develop a systematic approach to evaluate dermatological emergencies. The foundation of this approach is an understanding of the underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms for each of four broad categories of dermatologic processes which guide the resultant differential diagnosis.
The algorithm classifies any skin presentation by morphology first and then branches into differential diagnosis based on clinical features.
1. Possible life threatening rash
2.Maculopapular rash
3. Petechial rash
4.Erythematous rash
5.Vesiculobullous rash
